Really cool Halloween Ideas: Don’t know what to be? Why not try a virtual costume?

He's not REALLY a vampire, is he?

He’s not REALLY a vampire, is he?

Halloween is right around the corner again and the same question always comes up? What should I be for Halloween?

If you are a fan of The Walking Dead or True Blood or maybe even the new cool The Originals or how about the awesome American Horror Story, you may have zombies or vampires or creepy things on the brain.  Both have been around for as long as people have been conjuring up monsters in their imaginations.

In comes a cool idea – try out your ‘costume’ virtually online!  Are you familiar with fiverr? Fiverr is a website that offers skilled people who will do all kinds of interesting jobs for $5.  One of them is having your photo transformed into a zombie, vampire or even demon.

Time To Be A #Prepper – NASA Confirms White – Red Dwarf Binary Star System – Planet X or Nibiru? #preppertalk

NASA Wise has confirmed the existence of a binary star system that is “particularly surprising”.  Check it out:

If any of the prophecies, legends, stories, tales, tablets, biblical scriptures et al that have pointed out some type of celestial event coming, NASA has certainly confirmed one possibility in space.

Will it fly by us? Is it Nibiru or Planet X? Or is it just another scientific discovery?

I certainly won’t be waiting until the last minute to figure out whether it is or not, but I will be prepping all the way!

Merry Happy Prepping!

Tomato Powder – For Those Tired of Canning Already!

Ah, the harvest of tomatoes is a plentiful this year, however … Honestly, I am sick of canning tomatoes.

Too much time.  Too much work.  Too much space.

You get the point.

So I thought I would look up Do-It-Yourself sundried tomatoes, being all clever to figure something different out.  I do love sundried tomatoes but until I looked them up, I did not realize the difficulty in storing them.  Well, I don’t really want to have to freeze tons of sundried tomatoes.

As I was surfing through delicious photos of reds and yellows, recipes slowly going through the back of my mind, I saw the words:

TOMATO POWDER

how the POWDER changed my cooking life forever

These words combined have made my love of tomatoes grow beyond measure. And taste.

MR. DEHYDRATOR

Cutting up large numbers of my beautiful, organic tomatoes (courtesy of my wonderful garden this year!) in slices no more than 1/4 inch thick, sprinkle with a dash of pickling salt and now steps in Mr. Dehydrator.

The tomatoes get a really good air drying for around 12 – 20 hours.  Toss in some freshly chopped basil or oregano from my garden on top of the slices and add a punch of flavour.

MR. SPICE GRINDER

Spice grinder in one hand and the other throws a bunch of crushed, dehydrated tomato slices in.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ

It’s pulse grinding.  Keep at it until you have taken a peek and find the consistency you are looking for, which for me is finely ground tomato powder.

USES

2 tablespoons of concentrated tomato powder plus about 1/2 cup of water creates the most amazing tomato paste to use for sauces.

Sprinkle a small amount into your foods, depending on taste.  Use anywhere you would use tomato or sundried tomato in recipes, just make sure to taste and adjust accordingly.

ALWAYS TASTE.

It is so versatile.

THE TASTE

It totally tastes like ketchup chips minus the chip part.

STORAGE

Storage is the best part it takes up WAY less room.  I store in a mason jar with a bunch of rice at the bottom to keep the moisture out.

Hope you enjoy, let me know any recipes that you may know of that uses tomato powder.

BBQ Chicken: Here’s a Good Tip

I’ve heard that using recycled cans is not a great idea because of the lining inside combined with the heat.

Using cake rings works great.  This keeps your chicken off the grill and crisps up the skin really well.

Bon appétit.  Enjoy!

Repurposed Wood – Hallway Table – Retro Legs: You Can Do It Yourself

Recently, I’ve been going through all my old stuff.  I bought a scruffy looking table at Goodwill for $10 some time ago, never looking under all that terrible fake paint stain stuff.

Much to my surprise, it is wonderful quality pine wood.  So, I decided to do something with it.

Had another old 40′s table, so I took the legs and spray painted them with a dark Chameleon Purple (changes to dark Burgundy depending on the light):

And voila! After repurposing the old wood from a $10.00 table, sanding, using the legs from an old free table I had, plus some left over metal spray paint for the legs and hardware, here is what is looks like now:

It is not difficult to repurpose old things.  It just takes some imagination (or use other people’s ideas, Pinterest is so great for this!) and a bit of effort.  Old becomes new again, saving you money and bonus, reuse, recycle – REPURPOSE!!!  Total cost: $10.00, a few screws, spray paint & time.
